When it comes to impressing the experts, the D‑MAX & MU‑X do not disappoint.  Check out the range of accolades collected.

Reflective of the best-cars available to Australian motorists, News Corp Australia’s Motoring section has recently awarded the All-New Isuzu D-MAX as their ‘2020 Ute of the Year’, as part of the newspaper group’s annual ‘Car of the Year Awards’.

For the last 24 years, the annual ‘Car of the Year Awards’ has evaluated the latest vehicles introduced to Australian roads; pitting these combatants against their segment rivals in one of seven categories, from ‘Best Ute’ to ‘Best Performance car’ and everything in between.

For 2020, the Judges awarded the Isuzu D-MAX the title of ‘Best Ute’, with News Corp’s National Motoring Editor, Richard Blackburn praising the D-MAX as “the new benchmark in the 4WD ute class, thanks to its class-leading safety and excellent value for money.”

For the first time ever, the Isuzu D-MAX has jointly-won the top-accolade in the west, crowned as the ‘West Australian 2020 Ute of the Year’, as part of the newspaper’s annual ‘Car of the Year Awards’.

Sharing the win with the new Mazda BT-50 due to being based on the same platform as the All-New D-MAX, West Australian Motoring Editor, Sam Jeremic was impressed with the D-MAX, praising it as the “new benchmark of the [ute] segment,” referring to the standardised levels of safety equipment across all D-MAX models.

“We [the Judges] were impressed by the segment leading – and segment changing – safety technology and improvements in refinement, while still maintaining the toughness and capability which ute buyers find non-negotiable.”

Reaffirming its reputation for reliability, the Isuzu D-MAX has been awarded with one of the industry's most coveted accolades, winning the ‘Best Work Ute’ category in the Delivery Magazine Best LCV Awards for 2020.

Revered as one of Australia’s foremost authorities on light commercial vehicles (LCV), Delivery Magazine has played host to the annual awards for the past 14 years—assessing a suite of LCV models against a criterion that best reflects the intended purpose.

Delivery Magazine Managing Editor, Chris Mullett, said that the D-MAX was crowned the ‘Best Work Ute’, after out-scoring the competition in the judges’ stringent selection criteria and has genuinely built a reputation for reliability amongst owners.

After a week of rigorous testing, the iconic Isuzu MU-X has been awarded second place in the 4x4 Of The Year Award (4x4OTY) at the 2018 Australian Motoring Awards.

Powering ahead of competition from Jeep, Land Rover (Discovery TD6), Mercedes-Benz and Haval, the MU-X impressed the judges with its new ‘pumped-up’ engine - a Euro5 emission compliant 3.0 litre 4JJ1-TC Hi-Power turbo-diesel powerplant.

Harnessing the power of Isuzu’s truck DNA, there is an abundance of low-torque on tap, making the MU-X a confident towing partner but is equally at home offroad, with impressive ground clearance, affording these models true rugged off-road performance.

“If someone asked me what car are you going to jump into, not worry about it, take it round Australia, it’s going to be that (the MU-X)” stated Norm Needham, 4x4 Australia.

BEST 7 SEAT 4WD UNDER $60,000 - 2014

In 2014, the Isuzu MU‑X was awarded the Best 7 Seat 4WD under $60,000 for the second year running by OzRoamer Magazine.

"Driving the MU‑X is the long lasting Isuzu 3.0L diesel. This engine is one tough motor and is renowned for its build tolerances and longevity. The term indestructible comes to mind” said Anthony Hood, Oz Roamer Magazine.

The new Isuzu MU‑X is a strong contender in the family 4WD market. It has almost car/wagon like handling, enough power for almost everything you will ask of it, plenty of creature comforts, 5 star ANCAP safety, will seat 7 in relative comfort, is a robust and competent 4WD and all for less than $60,000."

BEST 7 SEAT 4WD UNDER $60,000 - 2013

In 2013, Isuzu UTE Australia's seven-seat SUV – the MU‑X – received its first accolade with OzRoamer crowning the MU‑X LS-T as the best seven-seat 4WD Under $60,000.

OzRoamer's tester Anthony Hood said that the MU‑X "performed effortlessly" during its evaluation.

"We took the Isuzu MU‑X LS-T on a family holiday towing a 2800kg caravan through the narrow windy and hilly back roads of Tasmania. The MU‑X never missed a beat. While towing we averaged about 14-15L/100Km and there was plenty of power and low down torque for the job. That is what I mean by sometimes the figures don't translate to real world driving. The MU‑X performed like it had another 100Nm of torque.

"What the Isuzu does though is make you really question why you would pay upwards of $80,000 on some of the other 'family 4WD wagons' it's that good," Hood concluded.

The Isuzu D-MAX was the winner of the 2013 Australian 4WD Action Magazine's Ute of the Year.

Widely respected as this country's toughest 4x4 ute test, the D-MAX triumphed over the full-gamut of Australia's one-tonne ute segment; the Toyota HiLux, Mazda BT-50, Ford Ranger, Nissan Navara, Holden Colorado and Volkswagen Amarok.

"Judging criteria for the 4WDer's Ute of the Year was simple – we wanted to test the vehicles in a way that mimics how they'd be used in real life," said Australian 4WD Action's editor, Brendan Seymour. "This meant loading them almost to their GVM (Gross Vehicle Mass), and then putting them through their paces in every off-road terrain imaginable, from mud, to steep hills, sand and long stretches at higher speeds ... finally, we enlisted the help of seven real 4WDers to test the vehicles like only a true 4WDer can – and the D-MAX came out on top," he added.

Not only did the Isuzu D-MAX pick up the overall award, but it also proved the most fuel efficient of the seven utes tested.
